    The long-range and fast-charging capabilities of electric vehicles rely on high-performance lithium-ion batteries, with cathode materials being one of the most crucial components. However, cathodes are prone to cracking during cycling and exhibit persistent side reactions with electrolytes, significantly compromising the battery's cycle life and rate performance. Surface coating can mitigate stress, enhance the wettability of liquid electrolytes, reduce interfacial charge transfer resistance, and decrease side reactions, thereby effectively optimizing cathode materials. Nevertheless, the influence of the physicochemical properties of surface coatings on electrochemical performance, as well as their evolution during cycling, still requires further understanding. Additionally, the optimal surface coating materials and methods have not been systematically summarized and concluded. 1. Requirements for Cathode Surface Coating The requirements for surface coating include: 1) being thin and uniform; 2) possessing ionic and electronic conductivity; 3) having high mechanical properties and remaining stable after charging/discharging cycles; 4) the coating process being simple and scalable. 2. The Roles of Surface Coating on Cathode Materials The roles of surface coating on cathode materials include: 1) serving as a physical barrier to inhibit side reactions; 2) scavenging HF to prevent chemical attack by the electrolyte and mitigate the dissolution of transition metals; 3) enhancing electronic and ionic conductivity; 4) modifying surface chemistry to facilitate interfacial ion charge transfer; 5) stabilizing the structure and reducing phase transition stress. 3 Coating Structure/Morphology 3.1 Uniform and Thin Coating The coating layer should be uniform and thin. Complete coverage of the cathode particles will protect the cathode from electrolyte attack and inhibit side reactions. Additionally, a thin coating layer enhances the kinetics at the interface, improving battery performance. 3.2 Thick Coating A thick coating provides a good physical barrier between the cathode and the electrolyte. However, thicker coatings can hinder the diffusion of lithium during intercalation and deintercalation processes, potentially performing well under high-temperature operations. 3.3 Island-Like/Rough Coating Layer Achieving a uniform and thin coating across the entire material using dry and wet coating processes is challenging. The coating layers formed by these processes are rough and uneven. 4. Coating Processes/Strategies 4.1 Wet Processes 4.1.1 Sol-Gel Coating The sol-gel coating process is commonly used for synthesizing cathode materials and surface coating. However, the use of water or other solvents increases costs. The Origin and Significance of Boling Boling, also known as "Pabo", is an indispensable traditional custom during the Mid-Autumn Festival in the southern Fujian region, particularly in Xiamen and Quanzhou. According to legends, this custom originated from the ancient imperial examination system, symbolizing people's aspiration to win the top rank of zhuangyuan (the imperial first-degree scholar) through the game, thereby bringing honor to their families. As time passed, Boling gradually evolved into a folk game integrating entertainment and blessings, becoming a vital activity during Mid-Autumn gatherings among friends and relatives. The Rules and Delight of Boling The equipment for Boling is a special set of six dice, each face of which is inscribed with different prize levels ranging from "Yixiu" to "Zhuangyuan Chajinghua". Participants take turns rolling the dice, and the resulting points and combinations determine the prize they win.     TOB NEW ENERGY built a 200MWh pouch cell production line for clients in Europe.   In August 2024, TOB NEW ENERGY battery equipment factory ushered in the customer's acceptance team. In order to meet the client's production plan for pouch cell, the pouch cell production line of clients in Europe was prepared and constructed in a short period of time, and plans to produce 200MWh of pouch cell per year. The construction of the customer's European manufacturing base will enable the company to further expand its production scale to realize the company's plan to explore more types of battery fields in the next few years. The 200MWh pouch cell production line project has now progressed to the on-site inspection and delivery stage. The inspection work at this stage is mainly focused on the assembly process, especially the electrode cutting and stacking processes. High speed auto electrode cutting machine This is a fully automatic high-speed electrode cutting machine, which is suitable for die-cutting and forming positive and negative electrode sheets in the stacking process of power lithium cells. Its production efficiency is≥160PPM, the qualified rate is≥99.5%, and the utilization rate is≥98%. It adopts double unwinding mechanism, one set is used and the other set is prepared, which can realize fast roll change and improve efficiency. It is equipped with two sets of correction systems, unwinding correction and overall correction, to ensure the forming accuracy of the electrode sheet. With double-sided blank detection function, the servo motor automatically adjusts the feeding length to eliminate coating misalignment errors and ensure the size of the tab material. The dual manipulator moves left and right to collect materials at high speed. Non-contact dust and iron removal, remove dust on the front and back of the electrode. FFU fan is installed on the top of the equipment to supply air. The industrial dust removal system vacuums multiple stations such as die cutting and collecting materials with negative pressure, so that the air inside the machine circulates and absorbs the floating powder in the machine. Auto stacking machine with CCD checking The stacking efficiency of this fully automatic stacking machine is≤0.6s/pcs per station. The qualified rate is≥99.5% and the utilization rate is≥98%. It uses a linear motor to drive the manipulator to pick up the sheets and load the materials, and a linear motor to drive the stacking table to move the sheets. It achieves high-speed and high-precision stacking while reducing the noise of machine operation. The CCD system is used to take photos and locate the electrode. The servo three-axis alignment platform corrects the electrode position, and the CCD positioning accuracy is≤±0.1mm. The electrode and the ear can also be positioned to detect the corners, corners, and dimensions, and bad electrodes can be automatically removed.

Factors like geometric tolerance, rigidity, dynamic and static balance quality, surface quality, temperature uniformity, and heat deformation affect coating uniformity. 4.    Coating Rubber Roller: The rubber roller is an essential variable for coating quality. Its material (e.g., durability of the rubber layer), hardness, geometric tolerance, rigidity, dynamic and static balance quality, surface quality, and heat deformation also influence coating uniformity. 5.    Laminating Machine: It serves as the foundational platform for coating. In addition to the precision and sensitivity of the coating steel roller and rubber roller pressing mechanism, it also encompasses the design operating speed and overall machine stability. The influencing factors for coating uniformity differ in the lateral and longitudinal directions, necessitating different control measures. These measures relate to both the design and manufacturing of the machine, as well as operational and process control. In practice, ensuring uniform coating involves both technical adjustments to the machinery and precise operational procedures. Lateral Uniformity of Coating and Its Control The uniformity of coating in the width direction is primarily influenced by the following factors: Geometric tolerance of steel rollers and rubber rollers. Contact pressure between steel rollers and the substrate. Lateral distribution of the adhesive, primarily referring to the viscosity of the adhesive and its corresponding transfer rate. This is comprehensively determined by the first two factors and the working viscosity of the adhesive.
