December 18, reporter learned from the Shanghai Institute of Silicate, which the scientists have developed
a high performance supercapacitor electrode material - nitrogen-doped mesoporous graphene. The material
has excellent electrochemical energy storage characteristics, can be used as electric vehicles "super cell":
Charging just 7 seconds, the life of 35 km. Related research has been published in the world's top journal
"Science" on the 18th.
Super capacitor, is an electrochemical energy storage device between the conventional capacitor
and the battery. Due to its high power density, long cycle life, safety and reliability, is now widely used in
many fields of hybrid electric vehicles, power output devices. How to make super capacitor combines
high power, high energy, long time scientists did not find the ideal material. For solving this problem, the
Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Silicate joint Peking University, University of
Pennsylvania, an ongoing research.
Huang Fuqiang team eventually found that graphene is the best choice for supercapacitor electrodes.
Through trial and error, design, synthesis, Huang Fuqiang research team found that nitrogen-doped
mesoporous graphene has optimal performance. Not only to achieve high energy density, high power
density, but also by using a water-based electrolyte, so that non-toxic, environmentally friendly,
inexpensive, safe and reliable.
According to reports, the new graphene supercapacitors lightweight, non-flammable nor explosive,
can be produced at low cost, to achieve the scale of production. Due to performance than the lead-acid,
nickel-hydrogen batteries have a clear competitive advantage, and in the rapid charge-discharge side
is also far superior to lithium batteries, so that the "super cell" can be widely applied to existing hybrid
electric vehicles, power output devices upgrading.
